Eddie O'Shea Moto3 Racer
Born 25 September 2006 in Leicester, United Kingdom , Eddie O’Shea is one of Britain’s brightest young hopes on the world motorcycle racing stage. Known in the paddock as “8 Ball Eddie”, he has risen through the ranks with grit and determination, overcoming serious injury along the way to reach the pinnacle of junior grand prix racing.
Early Life & Grassroots Racing
Eddie began racing motorbikes at just six years old, competing in grassroots championships across England. His natural talent and commitment quickly set him apart, and he developed into a disciplined and competitive racer from the very beginning.
British Talent Cup
Eddie made his debut in the British Talent Cup in 2019, spending two seasons in the category and finishing third in 2020, collecting a total of five podiums along the way. At just 13 years old — some four to five years younger than most of his rivals — he narrowly missed the championship itself when he was taken out in the final race of the season.
Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup & JuniorGP
In 2021, O’Shea joined the Junior Talent Team and was selected for the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, marking the start of a crucial learning phase. He spent three seasons in the Rookies Cup while steadily becoming a serious contender in the JuniorGP paddock, scoring his first podium in 2022.
His progress during this period was interrupted by a severe setback. His momentum was halted by a serious injury to his femoral artery that required five major surgeries. Thanks to skilled surgeons, he made a full recovery and returned to racing in 2023, finishing his first race back in 9th place, just 1.8 seconds behind the leader.
Step Up to the Moto3 World Championship
In mid-2024, O’Shea was announced as the replacement for the outgoing Joshua Whatley at MLav Racing, making his Moto3 World Championship debut. In his first four races, he took a best finish of 16th at the Malaysian GP — a strong foundation heading into his first full season.
For 2025, Eddie O’Shea and Marcos Uriarte completed the MLav Racing line-up as he embarked on his first full campaign at world level. After a year of adapting to the demands of the Moto3 category, O’Shea and the team showed significant progress during the closing stages of the season. He scored his first World Championship point in Indonesia, and for the first time that year progressed directly into Q2 in Malaysia, starting from 16th on the grid.
2026 & Beyond
Eddie will remain with GRYD MLav Racing for the 2026 season, completing the line-up alongside Australian rider Joel Kelso, embarking on his second full season in the Moto3 World Championship. With his first championship point already banked, his pace visibly growing, and the full backing of the MLav structure behind him, Eddie O’Shea looks set to become a genuine force in grand prix racing in the years ahead.
